How Hanger Supported Canopies Work
Hanger supported canopies suspend from the building face using hanger rods and wall-mounted support plates rather than ground-level posts or columns. The hanger rod system transfers canopy loads back into the building structure above, making this system ideal for locations where wall support is available but ground clearance or aesthetic considerations rule out post supported designs.
The visible hanger rods and mounting hardware become an architectural element in their own right. SkyScape’s support hangers and wall mounting plates can be custom designed to complement the building facade and reinforce brand identity.
Hanger supported systems are available in flat, curved, and arched profiles. The hanger rod spacing, rod diameter, and wall plate design are all engineered to the specific project load requirements, ensuring the system performs correctly across a wide range of building conditions and wind exposure categories.

Our team provides wind and snow load calculations per ASCE 7, hanger rod sizing and layout drawings, wall connection details by substrate type, and complete submittal packages including PE-stamped shop drawings where required.
Architects can use the SkyScape Spec Builder to generate specification language for hanger supported canopy systems under CSI MasterFormat Section 10 73 16.
Every SkyScape hanger supported canopy submittal includes shop drawings, engineering calculations, hanger rod layout drawings, wall connection details, and PE-stamped documents where required.
