AAMA Compliance Levels Explained
The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) sets performance standards for architectural coatings. There are three primary compliance levels for exterior aluminum finishes.
AAMA 2603
Entry-level performance standard. Suitable for interior applications or low-exposure exterior environments. Limited color retention and chalk resistance. Not recommended for commercial exterior canopy applications.
AAMA 2604
High-performance powder coat standard. Minimum 10-year warranty on color retention, gloss, and chalk resistance. SkyScape's current standard for commercial aluminum canopy finishes. Appropriate for the majority of commercial exterior applications.
AAMA 2605
Premium performance standard. Minimum 20-year warranty. Kynar 500 or Hylar 5000 fluoropolymer coatings. Specified for high-exposure environments, coastal locations, or projects requiring maximum longevity.
